Freeman Supply List

SUPPLY LIST
Thank you for choosing to pursue oil painting as a creative expression with me.
I hope you will find our time together to be fun, enriching and also abit challenging.
Following is a minimum list of materials you will need.  Please feel free to call if
you have questions or concerns.  I look forward to seeing you.

Oil Paints:
Titanium White (or some other white.  You may want to get a larger tube as
you will probably use more of this than any other color)
Cadmium Yellow Light or Cadmium Lemon or Hansa Yellow (Hansa is less expensive)
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Red Light
Alizarin Crimson
Cerulean Blue
Ultramarine Blue

SOLVENTS & MEDIUM:
You will need some type of solvent for cleaning brushes.  I suggest odorless mineral
spirits as some may be sensitive to the stinkier stuff.  I recommend a product by
Gamblin called "Gamsol" which claims to be less toxic than other odorless mineral spirits.
In addition you will definately need a small bottle of refined linseed oil.  You may also
bring a bottle of damar varnish, but this is optional.

BRUSHES:
You can get by with only one if you want.  Get a hog bristle brush, (boiled hog bristle
if possible) filbert shaped, about 3/8" to 1/2" wide where the ferrule flattens out.
If you're new at this, you can decide if you need more brushes as we go.

CANVAS/BOARD:
You will need some sort of primed, relatively smooth surface on which to paint.
Make it no smaller than 9 x 12", and no larger than 11 x 14".  I'm not picky about this-
it can be stretched canvas, canvas board, a piece of (untempered) masonite or
"hardboard" coated with gesso, or whatever.

OTHER STUFF:
You will need a roll of paper towels or some rags, a palette, a palette knife (not
too stubby) and two clip-on cups to attach to your palette.  The Art Center has easels
and paint stands available for those who need them.

Feel free to call with questions.
Artfully yours,  Scott Freeman    (970) 612-0005  email: scottnmollie@yahoo.com
